A Mass of Christian Burial for Judith Ann (Judy) Kiefer, 78, of Kalona will be held Friday, May 5, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Richmond with Father David Brownfield officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Riverside. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 4, from 4-8 pm at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona with a Rosary and Prayer Vigil at 3:30PM. A memorial fund has been established for Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Kalona 1st Responders. Judy Kiefer died Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at her home in Kalona.
Judith Ann (Flynn) Kiefer was born April 1, 1939 in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Delbert and Mildred (Kenney) Flynn. She graduated salutatorian from Riverside High School. On February 27, 1960 she was united in marriage to Anton "Ginger" Kiefer, Jr. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside. She was a homemaker and a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the GYP card club and worked at the Kalona Historical Society. She enjoyed scrabble, crossword puzzles, gardening, Am-Vets activities and the Chicago Cubs. Judy loved to travel and took several trips to Ireland and England. She also enjoyed traveling locally. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister and loved hosting family get-togethers.
Survivors include five children: Scott (Carmen) Kiefer of Wellman, Tim (Robin) Kiefer of Crawfordsville, Susan (John) Kleese of Washington, Todd (Krista) Kiefer of Kalona, Dennis (Cheyenne) Kiefer of Kalona, 18 grandchildren: Jenni, Tony, Nicki, Taylor, Lydia, Paige, Jason, Roman, Cleo, Layne, Nicholas, Courtney, Nathan, Maddie, Mackenzie, Elle, Kelsi and Michaela, 12 great grandchildren, six siblings: Linda Wilkinson of Moline, IL., Diane Flynn of Iowa City, Patricia Thomann of Iowa City, Nancy (Richard) Schmidt of Salt Lake City, UT., Jim (Nancy) Flynn of Washington, Pamela Flynn of Kalona, three sisters-in-law: Juanita Latta of Riverside, Betty Soukup of Riverside, Mary (Paul) Frank of Iowa City, and an honorary family member Jim Berg of Kalona.
Preceding Judy in death were her parents, an infant son, her husband Ginger on December 5, 1995, and a brother-in-law John Soukup.
