A memorial mass for Joyce A. Kron-Chalupa, 55, of Wellman, will be held Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside with Father David Brownfield and Deacon Derick Cranston officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, May 1, from 4 – 7 PM at St. Mary's Catholic Church where a prayer vigil will be held at 4PM. Memorial donations may be directed to Iowa City Hospice and Master Gardeners of Washington County. Joyce Chalupa died Wednesday, April 22 at her home following a 12 year battle with cancer.
Joyce Ann Kron-Chalupa was born January 12, 1960 in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Elmo and Virginia (Lenz) Kron. She graduated from Highland High School, from the University of Iowa with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing and from the Univeristy of Dubuque with a Masters Degree. On September 6, 1986 she was united in marriage to Alan Chalupa at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside. Joyce worked as a nurse and later as education coordinator at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Iowa City for 35 years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Master Gardeners of Washington County. Joyce enjoyed gardening, stamping, cooking, photography and horses.
Survivors include her husband Alan of Wellman, IA, two children: Amanda and Austin of Wellman, IA, six siblings: Marilyn Thomann of Liberty, MO, Linda (Doug) Corpman of Columbus Jct., IA, Charles Kron of Kalona, IA, Jane (Tom) Hotz of Lone Tree, IA, Greg Kron of Marengo, IA, Kris (Tim) Stumpf of Lone Tree, IA, parents Elmo and Virginia Kron of Riverside, IA, and mother and father in law, Dayle and Joanne Chalupa of Kalona.
Preceding Joyce in death were two nephews: Phil and Nick Kron and a brother in law, John Thomann.
