Joyce Ann Guy, 72 of rural Brighton died Friday, September 30, 2005 at the McCreedy Home in Washington.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at St. James Catholic Church in Washington with Rev. Fr. Ed O’Melia and Rev. Richard Boyd officiating. Burial will be in the Sandy Hook Cemetery. Visitation will begin at Noon Monday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with family present from 5-7:00 in the evening. There will be a Rosary at 4:00 and a Vigil Service at 7:00 Monday evening at the Funeral Home. Memorials in the name of Joyce Ann Guy may be designated to Hospice of Washington County or the 4-H Building at the Fairgrounds.
Joyce was born May 16, 1933 on the family farm at East Pleasant Plain, the daughter of Max Bernard and Lois Irene (McClintic) Benda. She graduated from Pleasant Plain High School in 1951. On February 23, 1952 she was united in marriage to Lathol Allen Guy at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain.
Mrs. Guy was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. James Catholic Church in Washington, Alter and Rosary, Indian Creek Club, Catholic Daughters of America, Brighton Township Treasurer and Clerk. She was also involved in Boy Scouts and was a den mother. Joyce was a homemaker and helped her husband on the farm.
Survivors include her husband Lathol of Brighton, two sons, Bruce and Phil, both of Brighton and daughter Denise Himes and husband Bret of Central City, IA; brothers Gene Benda of Mechanicsville, IA and Jim Benda of Mt. Pleasant, IA; grandchildren Jennifer Deutsch of Fairfield, Justin Deutsch of Cedar Rapids, Bailey Schooley Guy of Brighton and Austin Himes of Central City .
She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter Brenda.
