John Milton Hixson, 93 of Columbus Junction, died Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Parkview in Wellman, IA.
Funeral services have been set for 10:30 AM Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. Burial with military honors will follow at the Oregon Township Cemetery in Ainsworth. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM Friday at the Beatty Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 5-7:00PM. Memorials may be designated toward the Veterans Administration Medical Center of Iowa City or Hospice Compassus in the name of John Hixson.
John was born May 11, 1923 in Richland, Iowa the son of Ralph and Ruth (Singleton) Hixson. He graduated from Richland High School and served during WWII in the US Navy. He was united in marriage to Betty Miller on November 18, 1947 in Columbus Junction, IA.
He farmed his entire life in the Washington/Louisa County area, was past member of the National Farmers Organization (NFO) and enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include his wife Betty of Columbus Junction; daughter Connie Meyer of Naperville, IL and son Larry Hixson and wife Kathy of Brighton, IA; brothers Leonard Hixson of Iowa City, IA and Dean Hixson of New Martinsville, WV; 5 grandchildren, Michael, Sherry, Lisa, Matthew and
Jason; 2 great grandchildren, Katrina and Raeann.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, infant sister, Melvine Nelson and Genevieve Mc Kay.
