Joey Lee Neuenkirk, 43, of Wellman, formerly of Shellsburg, passed away early Wednesday morning May 4th, 2022. A funeral service will be held Friday, May 13, 2022, at 6:00 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. The family will greet friends from 4:00 PM until the time of the service. A memorial fund has been established for his children.
Joe was born April 17, 1979, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Earl and Diana (Draper) Neuenkirk. He was a jack of many trades holding many jobs throughout the years. He helped manage a mobile home court, had his own construction business, worked for other construction businesses, cooked for many kinds of restaurants, worked a few factory lines, commercial building cleaning and that is just to name a few. There wasn’t much that Joe could not do.
The job Joe loved the most though was being a father. He would do anything for his children. Joe was a big kid at heart himself and was very good with children. Joe was a very outgoing person who would make friends with almost everyone he met, no matter who they were. He would do anything to make other people happy. He liked to tell jokes and make people laugh. He will be missed by his family and friends as he touched their hearts in so many ways in the short time that he was with us.
Joe’s hobbies include fishing, going to the casino, playing guitar, going to the park with his children, mushroom hunting, reading, watching movies, calling his friends and family on the phone, drinking beer, and he loved listening to music.
He is survived by his 6 children who he loved more than anything in this world: Mackenna, Bella, Paisley, Logan, Kaitlyn, and Madison.
Joe is also survived by his father Earl, brothers Jamie and Tommy, and Fiancée Stephanie Thompson. Other survivors include Joe's many nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, great-nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and many cousins.
Preceding Joe in death were his mother Diana, paternal grandparents Dorothy and Virgil Neuenkirk, and maternal grandparents, George and Jackie Robinson.
Joe’s family would like to share this quote:
“Nothing in life is Guaranteed. Life is unfair at times and bad things happen to good people. So don’t take anything for granted. Appreciate what you have and hold those you Cherish close. Tell and show them how much you love them.”
