Jerry A. Tyer, 68 of Washington, died unexpectedly Thursday evening, November 21, 2002 at the Washington County Hospital.
Funeral Services have been set for 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at the Baptist Church in Wellman with the Rev. Gene Carpenter and Rev. James Cluney officiating. Burial will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. Monday at the Funeral Home with family present from 6-8:00 P.M. A memorial in the name of Jerry A. Tyer has been established.
Jerry was born January 11, 1934 in Perry, Iowa the son of Austin F. and Orma (Summerson) Tyer. On February 25, 1955 he was united in marriage to Naomi Ruth Seiders at the First Christian Church in Perry.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Washington and attended the Baptist Church in Wellman. Jerry graduated from Dawson Consolidated High School in 1952 and attended Reich Auctioneering School in Mason City, Iowa. He was a member of the National Guards 185th Field Artillery Battalion, 34th Infantry Division at Perry, Ia from 1952 till 1961. He farmed in the Dawson area and worked at Farmer’s Hybrid Seed Corn Plant in Perry until 1961 when he became District Sales Manager for Farmer’s Hybrid that later changed to Asgrow Seed Co. He moved to Washington in 1962. After retiring in 1990 from Asgrow he worked for Kruger Seed Co. at Dyke, Iowa.
Jerry enjoyed fishing, camping, wild game feast and spending time at Myrtle Lake in Minnesota.
Survivors include his wife Naomi of Washington; two sons, Jeffrey “Jeff” Tyer and wife Barb (Flanegan) of Washington, Iowa and Ted Tyer and wife Donna of Mesa, AZ; two daughters, Debbie Murray and husband Stan of Washington and Patrisha Tyer of Washington; one sister Joanne Sayles and husband Francis of Sun City, AZ and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
