A Celebration of Life of Jeannette D. Sexton, 89, of Riverside, will be held Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City. Burial will follow at Riverside Public Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, October 14 from 3 – 7 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Riverside Fire Department or a charity of the donor’s choosing. Jeannette Sexton died Thursday, October 10, 2019, at the McCreedy Home in Washington following a short illness
Jeannette Doris (Blum) Sexton was born January 18, 1930, in Wellman, Iowa, the daughter of William and Louise (Ossman) Blum. She graduated from Wellman High School in 1949. On August 16, 1949 she was united in marriage to Clayton Sexton at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Iowa City. Jeannette worked with Senior Dining in Riverside from 1982 – 2012 and was a member of the Riverside VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Riverside Chamber of Commerce/Community Club, the AC Connections Club and the KUB Card Club. She was a founding member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City and enjoyed reading, gardening, watching Wheel of Fortune and attending tractor shows.
Jeannette is survived by seven children and spouses: Ronna and Steve Sojka, Robert and Carol Sexton, Ronald and Theresa Sexton, Randy and Laurie Sexton, Becky and Paul LaRoche, Rita and Gary Yoder all of Riverside, and Renee Sexton of Kansas City, MO; 18 grandchildren: Tina (Chris) McGee, Gabe (Pam) Sojka, Emily (Jen) Sexton, Elizabeth (Zach) Hayes, Craig (Carrie) Sexton, Amy (Darrick) Eldridge, Kyle Sexton, Chris (Nicole) Sexton, Chad (Erica) Sexton, Curtis (Jackie) Sexton, Cory Sexton, Jeremy (Bridget) LaRoche, Michael (Katie) LaRoche, Daniel (Abigail) LaRoche, Thomas LaRoche, Amanda (Jason) Adrian, Sheena and Kelsey Yoder, Zach Mellinger; 37 great-grandchildren, one brother Jim Blum of Anamosa and one sister: Mae Martin of Columbus Junction.
Preceding Jeannette in death were her parents, her husband Clayton, son Steven Sexton, daughter-in-law, Lori Sexton, three grandchildren, Anthony, Colin, Caitlynn Sexton, three brothers: Clarence, Donald and Marion Blum and three sisters: Viola Sexton, Lillian Graf and Gayle Rarick.
