Jared Miller, 42, of rural Wellman, passed peacefully from this life after an eight-month battle with cancer, on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the Mid-Prairie High School gymnasium. The service will be available via Livestream on the Beatty Peterseim Website, Facebook, and YouTube pages. Burial will follow at the Upper Deer Creek Cemetery north of Wellman. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 26, 2024, from 1 – 8 PM at the Upper Deer Creek Church, where the family will greet friends from 3 – 8 PM. A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Washington County and a fund for Jared’s children. Checks can be made to the Jared Miller Family Benefit fund. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Jared Kendal Miller was born July 20, 1981, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, the son of Elmer and Ileen (Bender) Miller. He graduated from Pathway Christian School and continued the mowing business that he started at the age of 14, eventually buying Kalonial Lawn Care in 2003. On March 8, 2003, he was united in marriage to Mandi Swartzentruber at Fairview Church. Jared was a member of Upper Deer Creek Church, served on the Mid-Prairie Athletic Boosters, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and trapping. He was a devoted husband and father and took great joy in coaching his children in their various sports, attending their events, and teaching them the value of relationships with others. Jared was a gifted conversationalist and storyteller who loved learning anything he could from everyone he talked with. He had a heart for his community and valued the vendors and customers he interacted with in his business.
Survivors include his wife Mandi of Wellman, four children: Dawsyn (fiancé Luke Schrock), Grady, Sophie and Oliver Miller; parents Elmer and Ileen Miller of Kalona; father and mother-in-law Mark and Madonna Swartzentruber of Riverside; two sisters: Bethany (Jeffrey) Adams of Wellman, Katelyn (Stone) Romano of Kalona; sisters-in-law: Miranda Miller (Tyler) of Wellman, Martha (Phil) Duwa of Kalona, Madison (Shandon) Herschberger of Kalona; two brothers-in-law: Mitch (Sara) Swartzentruber and Myles (Corrie) Swartzentruber of Wellman, and several cousins and nieces and nephews.
Preceding Jared in death were his brother Micah Miller (2016), paternal grandparents Mahlon and Edna Miller, and maternal grandparents Harold Ray and Ila Bender.
