James “Jim” F. Walker 74 of Washington died Tuesday evening, May 4, 2004 at his home south of Washington.



A Memorial Mass will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 7, 2004 at St. James Catholic Church in Washington with Rev. Fr. Ed O’Melia celebrant. The body has been cremated. Burial will be at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery in Harper. Visitation will begin at Noon Thursday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 P.M. in the evening. A Vigil Service will be 7:30 Thursday night at the Funeral Home. Memorials in the name of James Walker may be designated to Hospice of Washington Co., SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church or the St. James Catholic Church.


Jim was born August 5, 1929 in New Orleans, LA the son of Forrest D. and Genevieve (Benda) Walker. He attended St. James School and graduated from Washington High School. On August 5, 1954 he was united in marriage to Mary Lou Bombei at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Harper.


He was a member of St. James Catholic Church. Jim worked at REA Express for ten years in Washington and later for Milwaukee Railroad for twenty years retiring on September 1, 1992. He also farmed south of Washington. He enjoyed hunting, guns, storytelling, riding his 4-wheeler, his black lab and being with family and friends.


Survivors include his wife Mary Lou of Washington, two sons, Doug Walker of Wayland, IA, Frank Walker of Wellman, IA; five daughters, Vicky Johnson and husband Craig of Washington, Annette Kuhlmeier and husband Russ of Burlington, IA, Barbara Walker of Washington, Mary Greiner and husband Tim of Washington and Brenda Sieren and husband Alan of Keota, IA; eight grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents.
