James Herman Leichty, 70 of rural Wayland, died Tuesday morning, July 5, 2005 at the Washington Care Center following declining health.
Funeral services have been set for 10:30 A.M. Friday, July 8, 2005 at the Bethel Mennonite Church with the Rev. Herb Yoder officiating. Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will begin at Noon Thursday at the Bethel Mennonite Church with family receiving friends from 2-4:00 and 6-8:00 P.M. in the evening. Memorials in his name have been established to the Bethel Mennonite Church or Hospice of Washington County. Beatty Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of the Leichty family arrangements.
Mr. Leichty was born May 4, 1935 in Wayland, Iowa the son of Herman and Florence (Christner) Leichty. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Schrock June 4, 1955 at the Lower Deer Creek Church in Kalona, Iowa. They celebrated 50 years of marriage this year.
James was a charter member of the Bethel Mennonite Church and was baptized at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church. He was a life long farmer in the Wayland area.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy of Wayland, children Joyce Schrock and husband Norman of Kalona, Ia, Loran Leichty and wife Chris of Wayland, Janice Hostetler and husband Lynn of Kalona, Ia, Brenda Roth and husband Tom of Dorchester, Ne, Barbara Jones and husband Ron of Middlebury, In and Edward Leichty and wife Amy of Archbold, Oh; brothers Vernon Leichty and wife Karen of Wayland, Clarence Leichty and wife Julie of Kalona, Ronald Leichty and wife Karen of Milford, Ne and Leland Leichty and wife Esther of Wayland; sisters Alice Roth and husband Mel of Coralville, Ia and Jeanene Roth of Milford, Ne and twelve grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughters Amy and Mikayla and brother in law Herbert Roth.
