James Alvin Kauffman

James A. Kauffman, 50, of Iowa City, passed from this life on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at his home following a sudden illness. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 4:00 PM at the East Union Mennonite Church fellowship hall. The family will greet friends from 2 – 3:45 PM in the fellowship hall. His body has been cremated and a private burial will be held at a later date. A memorial fund has been established for Shelter House in Iowa City. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.

James Alvin Kauffman was born in Anamosa, Iowa on August 18, 1974. Nyle D. and Lois E. (Miller) Kauffman adopted him at an early age. He graduated from West High School. James worked on various construction and masonry projects and for Muscatine Metal. He enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs and the Iowa Hawkeyes play football and playing video games. James also enjoyed farm life and riding horses.

Survivors include his father, Nyle (Lauralee) Kauffman, of Iowa City, three siblings: Timothy (Kim) Kauffman of Westminster, CO, Karl (Sarah) Kauffman of Texas, and Sarah (Jason) Biersner of Iowa City, and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding James in death was his mother Lois and uncle and aunt John and Loretta Kauffman.
