James Hooley

March 1, 1935 — July 30, 2019

A memorial service for James J. “Jim” Hooley, 84, of Washington, will be held Saturday, August 3, 2019, at 11:00 AM at the Bethel Church in Wayland with Pastor Curt Kuhns officiating.  A private family burial will be held at West Union Cemetery prior to the service.  Visitation will be Friday, August 2, from 4 – 7 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. Memorial donations may be directed to Donna Heisner Hooley and will be distributed according to the family’s wishes. Jim Hooley died Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.

James J. Hooley was born March 1, 1935, at home in Wellman, Iowa, the son of Ora and Geneva (Swartzendruber) Hooley. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps after high school. On May 29, 1960, he was united in marriage to Mary E. Hesseltine, she passed away on February 17, 1999. On July 1, 2000, Jim was united in marriage to Donna (Branz) Heisner at Bethel Church in Wayland. Jim worked for many years splicing cable for the Wellman Telephone Company and then independently, and later was an insurance agent in Wellman and surrounding areas. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed hunting ducks and pheasants.

Survivors include his wife Donna of Washington, one son Brian Hooley of Wellman, his sister Jane (Jim) Gnagey of Wisconsin, five stepchildren: Frank (Diane) Heisner, Leo Heisner, Teresa (Shane) Anderson, Brenda (Charles) Green, Matt Heisner, and seven step-grandchildren.

Preceding Jim in death were his parents, his wife Mary and a sister Phyllis Hooley.
