Celebration of Life services for James L. Fort age 73, of Washington are Tuesday, February 8, at 10:00 at the Beatty Funeral Home, Washington. Pastor Jim Cluney will officiate. His body will be cremated following the service and burial will be at a later date in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Washington. Visitation will be Monday, Feb. 7 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at the Beatty Funeral Home.
James died Friday, February 04, 2011 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics following a sudden illness.
James Lee Fort was born February 26, 1937 in Jefferson City, MO. He was the son of William Emil and Geneva (Lail) Fort.
James and Christy (Glider) were married in Washington on December 27, 1984. Jim a mason and owned a masonry business and also was foreman for the H. Eugene Smith Construction Co until retirement. He currently was employed at the Riverside Casino and Resort in Riverside in the maintenance department.
Jim had many interests that included NASCAR racing, mushroom hunting, woodworking and gaming. He also enjoyed country western music.
Survivors are his wife, Christy, of Washington, two children, daughter, Kim Fort and special friend, Lou Mastranglo of Morro Bay, CA, and a son, Jason and wife Janet Fort of Cedar Falls, IA and two stepchildren, Mark and Joel Bruty of Washington and three grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Ron Fort of Central City, IA, and two sisters-in-law, Georgia Fort of Wayland, IA and Grace Ann Fort of Pleasantville, IA.
Preceding Jim in death were his parents, his first wife, Catherine (Reschly) in 1975 and two brothers, Bill Fort and Bud Fort.
A general memorial fund has been established.
