James “Jim” Henry Dawson, 75 of Washington, died Thursday evening, September 29, 2005 at the McCreedy Home in Washington.
His body has been cremated and graveside services will be held 2:30 P.M. Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at the Elm Grove Cemetery with Military Honors. The Rev. Fr. Ed O’Melia will officiate. Visitation will begin at Noon Tuesday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with family present one hour prior to the graveside service. Memorials in the name of James Dawson may be designated to Hospice of Washington County.
Jim was born September 13, 1930 at home near Ainsworth, Iowa the son of Fredrick Wood and Julia Ellen (Ballard) Dawson. He graduated from Washington High School in 1949, Washington Junior College 1949-1950, St. Ambrose College 1956-1957 and received his B.A. degree in fine art in 1965 from George Washington University. He served in the Korean War with the Air Force from 1951-1955.
Jim was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Washington. He worked for forty years in the Washington D.C. area as a Judgment Officer for the Superior Court, Civil Division, for the District of Columbia. He retired in 1980 and returned to Washington in 1995.
Survivors include three sister-in-laws, Carol Dawson of Cedar Rapids, Alice Dawson and Ann Dawson both of Aurora, CO and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Rex, Richard “Whitey” and Fred, three sisters, Francis Butterbaugh Knupp, Bobbie Rich and Jane Rich.
