James Boshart

James “Jim” Boshart, 87 of Wayland, died Monday, September 24, 2007 at the Sunrise Terrace Care Center in Winfield following declining health.

James body has been cremated and Graveside Services will be 10:00 AM Friday, October 19, 2007 at the Wayland Cemetery with military honors. Pastor Gerry Klopfenstein will be officiating. Visitation will begin at Noon Thursday, October 18, 2007 at the Beatty Funeral Home in Wayland with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 in the evening. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorial to the Wayland First Responders.

Jim was born February 10, 1920 in Wayland, Iowa the son of Orus and Edith (Allen) Boshart. He attended school in Wayland, Olds, Phoenix, AZ and Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant. In 1941 he joined the U.S. Navy and requested Submarine duty. He served with four different subs from 1942-1945. In 1945 he took over his deceased father’s insurance business.

In June of 1948 he married Della Jurgensen. During the years of 1953-1958, Jim was a partner with Sherman Umphrey in the Skelly Oil Business. In 1959 Jim and Laurence Henss formed the Boshart and Henss Insurance Agency. He also worked at the Wayland Post Office as a clerk, retiring in 1980.

He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Henry County Mutual Insurance Company for 32 years, Board Member of Farmers and Merchants Mutual Telephone Co. for 30 years, Bain Hume American Legion Post 402, US Submarine Veterans of WW II and also served as a Volunteer Fireman.

Survivors include his wife Della of Wayland, son Edward Boshart and wife Loretta of Wayland and daughter Janis Unternahrer and husband David of Wayland, two grandchildren Steven and Sarah and two great-grandchildren Hannah and Lillee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and grandson Aaron.
