A celebration of life for Jake "Jakers" Allen Bodkin, Jr., 9, of Washington will be held 10:30 AM, Thursday, March 5, 2015 at at the Washington United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Stiles officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 4, from 3 – 7 PM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington where the family will greet friends from 4 – 7 PM. A memorial fund has been established for the family's use. Jake Bodkin, Jr. died Friday, February 27, 2015 at the Washington County Hospital.
Jake Bodkin, Jr. was born September 3, 2005 in Iowa City, IA, the son of Jake A. Bodkin, Sr., and Angie (Chapman) Bodkin. He loved being a third grader and his classmates at Lincoln Elementary and being a member of the Washington United Methodist Church and AWANA. Jakers enjoyed Elmo, watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Jake and the Neverland Pirates, music, games, books, swimming, firetrucks, police cars, camping and being outdoors and Elvis. He could light up a room with his smile and he loved to laugh. He loved his mama and dad and his brothers and sister, and will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him.
Survivors include his parents, Angie and Jake Bodkin, Sr. of Washington, Older brother, Austin, older sister, Kayla and younger brother, Travis Bodkin all of Washington. He is also survived by his maternal grandfather, Larry Chapman, Sr. of New Mexico, an uncle Edward Bodkin of Tipton, IA, an aunt Michelle Manning of Maquoketa, IA, and a number of cousins.
Preceding Jakers in death were his paternal grandparents, Jerry Bodkin and Alberta Bodkin, and maternal grandmother, Sheryl Chapman.
