Jacob W. Schrock, 86, died Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at his home in rural Kalona. A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 7, 2021, at 3:00 PM at Lower Deer Creek Church with Pastor Steve Nelson officiating. The service will be available via Livestream at https://youtu.be/--zrfTDIw2E. A memorial fund has been established for Lower Deer Creek Church and Mennonite Central Committee.
Jacob William Schrock was born December 27, 1934, in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Daniel W. and Anna (Roth) Schrock. He served in the Pax Program rebuilding post-war Europe in Germany and Algeria, where he learned the bricklaying trade. When Jacob returned, he was a bricklayer and member of the Bricklayer and Allied Craftworkers Local 3 Iowa. He lived in rural Iowa most of his life and obtained a Bachelor of the Arts Degree in History Education from the University of Iowa. Jacob was a member of Lower Deer Creek Church, having laid the brick for the right-side column in front of the church, and was a member of the Washington Township Optimist Club. He loved reading, family genealogy, and animals and was a simple man that lived a simple life.
Survivors include four siblings: Lillie Thomas of South Pasadena, CA, Howard Schrock of Goshen IN, Esther Siville and Lydia Ann Kennel, both of Monmouth, OR, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Jacob in death were his parents, seven brothers: Raymond, Ervin, Edwin, Elmer, John, Daniel, Fred; and three sisters: Mabel McKittrick, Bessie Swartzendruber, and Bertha Miller.
