Irene Grout died Sunday, June 19, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a brief illness. She was a resident at the Pleasantview Home for the past three years. A memorial fund has been established for the Sharon Center United Methodist Church or Iowa City Hospice.
Irene Margaret Chipman was born August 23, 1925 in Tiffin, Iowa the daughter of Arthur and Edith (Cox) Chipman. She graduated from Sharon Center High School. On November 21, 1942 she was united in marriage to Irvin "Mose" Grout in Missouri. Irene was a homemaker and was also employed by the Johnson County Sheriff'sOffice, the Kalona Bakery, and as an election poll clerk. She was a member of the Sharon Center United Methodist Church, Corona Chapter OES, Easy Wheeler's Campers, and the 39'ers Card Club. Irene enjoyed camping, bowling, fishing, crocheting and knitting, latch hook,painting, cooking and baking, sewing and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her two sons, James (Ali) Grout of Auburn, AL, Bob (Lila) Grout of Kalona, daughter in law, Trudy Grout of Iowa City, two daughters, Nancy (Leroy) Nissley of Riverside, Vicki (Ken) Adam of Kalona, 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, two sisters in law, Daisy Chipman of North Liberty and Vyrle Grout of Riverside.
Preceding Irene in death were her parents, her husband Mose on May 20, 2005, a son Bill Grout, and infant grandson, son of Vicki and Ken Adam, two brothers, Earl and Carroll Chipman, one sister, Helen Hartsock, three brothers-in-law Lowell Hartsock, Clair (Buck) Grout, Jess Grout, and one sister-in-law, Ida Grout.
