Howard Mabeus

Howard Herman Mabeus, 88 of Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.



Funeral services have been set for 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 20, 2004 at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant with Dr. Edward Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Point Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. Friday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant where the family will receive friends from 6-8:00 in the evening. Memorials in the name of Howard Mabeus may be designated to Flex Services, Pleasant Point Cemetery or Pleasant Point Church.


Howard was born September 26, 1915 in Burlington, Iowa the son of Herman C. and Hilda (Spitzmiller) Mabeus. He attended school at Prairie Gem School and was united in marriage to Irma Kinney, Wilma (Lee) McDowell and Marie (Schnicker) Walz, all preceded him in death.


Howard farmed for over sixty years and specialized in custom work as well as livestock. He was a member of Tippecanoe township trustees, Iowa Pork Producers where he was recognized for his excellence and the Mt. Pleasant COOP board. He was recognized from Midwest Old Threshers for his many years of dedicated farming. He enjoyed tractor pulling, car racing, the Iowa State Fair, playing card, dancing and his family.


Survivors include two sons, Jerry Mabeus and wife Martha of Mt. Pleasant and Terry Mabeus and wife Deb of Mt. Pleasant; three daughters, Judy Cash and husband Bill of Mt. Pleasant, Marilyn Coghlan and husband John of Webster City, IA and Karen Mabeus of Mt. Pleasant; three brothers, Ralph Mabeus and wife Elvira of Winfield, IA, Richard Mabeus and wife Orpha of Weaver, IA and Earl Mabeus and wife Norma of Ottumwa, IA; eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and many stepchildren and step-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents and wives.
