A Mass of Christian Burial for Howard F. Keifer, 94 of Washington will be held Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 10:30 AM at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Richmond, with Father Marty Goetz officiating. Burial will follow at the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, June 11 from 4-7 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM. A memorial fund has been established for the Holy Trinity Parish Life Center and Richmond Am-Vets Post #107. Howard Keifer died Friday, June 8, 2012 at the All American Care Center in Washington following a lingering illness.

Howard Firmin Keifer was born September 1, 1917 in Richmond, Iowa the son of Leo James and Helen Agnes (Welte) Keifer. He graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic School and attended the University of Iowa. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served as a 2 nd lieutenant. On August 10, 1940 he was united in marriage to Oleta Boese in Palmyra, Missouri. The couple lived and farmed in the Richmond community for much of their lives before retiring to Washington 16 years ago. Howard was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Richmond Am-Vet Post #107. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, mushrooming, trapping and was an avid Cubs and Hawkeye fan.

Survivors include his wife Oleta of Washington, two sons, Douglas and wife Joan of Ankeny, James and wife Kathy of Kalona, three grandchildren, Jamie and husband Pete Jones, Ryan and wife Katya Keifer and Neil Keifer and sister-in-law Anita Keifer of Iowa City, IA.

Preceding Howard in death were his parents, two sisters, Virgina Keifer and June Iverson, and one brother, Eugene Keifer.
