Hom Lovan, 80 of Wayland, IA died Monday, November 27, 2006 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Funeral Services have been set for 2:00 PM Saturday, December 2, 2006 at the Wayland Mennonite Church with Pastors Gerry Klopfenstein and Pam Unruh officiating. Following the service his body will be cremated and interred at a later date at the North Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at Noon Friday at the Wayland Mennonite Church with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 in the evening. Beatty Funeral Home of Wayland is assisting with arrangements. A general memorial in the name of Hom Lovan has been established.
Hom was born March 27, 1926 in Dien Bien Phu, Vietnam the son of Yot and La Lovan. He served with the French military during the French Indochina War. He was united in marriage to Yen Baccam October 10, 1959.
He was a member of the Wayland Mennonite Church. Hom moved to the United States in 1980 and was employed at J and J Motors and Buffs Truck Stop before retiring. He became a US Citizen in 1991. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and gardening.
Survivors include his wife Yen of Wayland, IA, children, Veng Tong Van of Wayland, IA Chua Lovan and wife La of Muscatine, IA, Vong Kavan and husband Kham of Des Moines, IA, Moung Nguyen and husband Huang of Burlington, IA, Boun Lovan and wife Sarah of Cedar Rapids, IA and Boundy Lovan and wife Charity of Wayland, IA; three sisters in Vietnam and fourteen grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
