Herbert Grout

Services: Saturday, April 25, 2009 1:00 PM Peterseim Funeral Home, Kalona Visitation: Sat. 4/25 from noon until service time at Peterseim Funeral Home Burial: East Union Cemetery, rural Kalona Memorial Fund: General memorial Herbert Amos Grout was born January 14, 1931, the son of Amos and Carrie (Schrock) Grout near Frytown in Johnson Co. He attended Center High School and later earned his GED. Herb enlisted in the US Army in 1952 and served until 1954. He had been employed in various jobs. He worked on the family farm with his parents before moving to Russell, IA. Herb and Joyce Underwood were married in Riverside,IA. The couple later separated. He enjoyed spending time with his family along with working on inventions and bike repair. Traveling was another interest. He had lived in Des Moines the past 25 years. He passed away at his home on Monday. Survivors are his daughter, Bonnie Grout of Mitchellville, two grand daughters, Saydee and Leanna Neades, a special great niece Tina Grover and three nieces and nephews; Janet Davis, Carolyn Pond and Allen Grout. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Wilma Grout of Newton. Herb was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Alva, Clifford, Virgil and Guy Grout.
