A graveside service for Hazel Conklin, 85, will be held Saturday, July 28 th at 10:30 AM at the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona.  Hazel Conklin passed away peacefully July 7, 2012 in Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, surrounded by her family.

Hazel was born on June 1, 1927 in Milford, Nebraska, the daughter of Chris and Lucinda (Hershberger) Earnest.  Her family moved to Kalona where she grew up and graduated from high school.  She married Richard "Dick" Conklin in 1946.  They lived in Richland where she was a bookkeeper.  She lived there for 40 years until they retired to Wickenburg, Arizona in 1990.  Hazel enjoyed golfing, dancing, and playing bridge.  They greatly enjoyed traveling the world with friends.  She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Phoenix Suns fan.  She thoroughly enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Hazel is survived by daughters Deborah (Patrick) Kinney of Oxford, Iowa and Sally Salazar of Freeland, Washington, three grandchildren, David Kinney of Chicago, Illinois, Sarah (Kyle) Morrissey of Overland Park, Kansas, Eric Salazar of Anchorage, Alaska, and great grandsons Connor Morrissey and Oscar Salazar, a sister, Elvera Brenneman of Dallas, plus nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband and best friend, Dick, her parents, one brother, Norma Earnest, and one sister, Virgie Miller.  She was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by family and friends.
