Harvey Yoder

Funeral services for Harvey Dale Yoder, 80, life long resident of Kalona, will be held Sunday, October 8, 2017 at 2:30 PM at the Kalona Mennonite Church with Pastors Scott Swarztendruber and Perry Miller officiating. Burial will follow at the Peter Miller Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday, October 7 from 10-noon, 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for the Kalona Mennonite WMSC. Harvey died Thursday, October 5, 2017, at the Pleasantview Home following a brief illness.

Harvey was born January 1, 1937 in Kalona, Iowa, the son of Noah M. and Magdalena (Hochstedler) Yoder. He accepted Christ and was baptized in his youth. Harvey attended Snake Hollow and Middleburg rural schools. On October 1, 1959, Harvey was united in marriage to Ruby Ann Ropp at the Linus Gingerich home. The couple was married for 55 years at the time of Ruby Ann's death in 2015. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, visiting and spending time with his family. Harvey was a long time member of the Kalona Mennonite Church.

Survivors include three siblings: Annie Ropp of Kalona, Mary Ellen (Edward) Slabaugh of Mt. Crawford, VA., John Henry (Clara) Yoder of Williamina, OR., five brothers-in-law: Joe Jr. Miller of Kalona, Verna Yoder of Dayton, VA., Ezra (Mary) Ropp of Middlebury, IN., Vernon (Nina) Miller of Kalona, Jacob (Susie) Ropp of Kalona, Cecil (Dorothy) Ropp of Ava, IL. and Virgil (Sue) Ropp of Middlebury, IN., three sisters-in-law: Emma (Oren) Miller and Vera Mast both of Kalona, Nancy (Benny) Yoder of Iowa City. Also surviving are 63 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews.

Preceding Harvey in death were his parents, his wife Ruby Ann in 2015, a brother Menno M. Yoder in 1973, and two sisters: Lydia May Yoder in 2011, Erma Miller in 2013, brother-in-law Chester Ropp in 1970 and sister-in-law Freda Miller in 2000.
