Harry W. McGuire, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, formerly of Olds, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at the Henry County Health Center Park Place in Mt. Pleasant. His funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Cottonwood United Methodist Church in Wayland, with Pastor Gerard Muller officiating. The service will be available via Livestream at the Beatty Peterseim Facebook and YouTube pages. Burial will follow at the Cottonwood Cemetery. The family will greet friends before the service, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the church. A memorial fund has been established for the Cottonwood Cemetery. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Harry William McGuire was born August 6, 1937, in Wayland, Iowa, the son of Max and Bessie (Allred) McGuire. He graduated from Wayland High School in 1955. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1955 – 1959. On October 12, 1957, he was united in marriage to Violet Hill at the Cottonwood Methodist Church in Wayland. Harry was a heating and air conditioning technician, working at McCoy Plumbing and Heating for over 50 years. He was a member of the Cottonwood United Methodist Church where he served on many boards and committees, the Lions Club of Olds and the Olds City Council. Harry served as mayor of Olds for a term and a half and was the Olds Water Superintendent for several years. Harry was a skilled woodworker, making wooden toys and clocks for his family. He collected antique clocks and had the ability to fix anything.
Survivors include his wife Violet of Mt. Pleasant, five children: Andy McGuire of Olds, Tami (Mark) Lyon of Mt. Pleasant, Shirley (Jon) Mills of Salem, Kim McGuire (Tom Walker) of Dallas City, IL, Jill (Devan) Rhum of Mt. Pleasant, nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Preceding Harry in death were his parents, his son Scott, his sister Meriel Benge, and four brothers: Emery, Roger, Richard and Myron McGuire.
