Harold Henry Shelangoski, 82 of Mt. Pleasant died Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at his home in Mt. Pleasant following a battle with cancer.
Funeral Services have been set for 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 11, 2003 at the Beatty Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. Charles Tweed officiating. Burial will be in the Friends Cemetery in Richland, IA. Visitation will begin at Noon Thursday at the Funeral Home with family present from 7-8:30 P.M. Memorials may be designated to Crossroads Hospice in the name of Harold Henry Shelangoski.
Harold was born January 21, 1921 near Brighton, IA the son of Stephen and Velma (Hinkle) Shelangoski. He was united in marriage to Eloise Emry on January 21, 1947 in Fairfield, IA.
He was a member of the VFW Post of Mt. Pleasant and a former governor of the Moose Lodge.
Harold was raised and educated in Jefferson Co. and worked as a farm hand before entering the U.S. Army and served overseas for 39 months with the 31st Artillery Battalion in the Aleutian Islands and the Southern Philippines. He was employed with John Morrell in Ottumwa after the war and after marriage moved Mt. Pleasant where he was employed with Benner Tea Company, Hoaglin’s Dept. Store, Fankhauser’s Dairy, Vega Industries, Napa Auto Parts, Mt. Pleasant News, Moorman’s Feed and General Electric in Burlington for 16 ½ years prior to his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards, working around the house and being with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife Eloise of Mt. Pleasant; brother, Lyle Shelangoski of Wayland, Ia; sister, Lucille Garrels and husband Miles of New London, IA and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
