A celebration of life for Harold G. Darby, 77, of Washington will be held Friday, July 29, 2011 at 10:00AM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington, with Pastor Jim Cluney officiating. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 28 from 6-8PM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. Harold Darby died Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at his home in Washington following a lingering illness. A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Washington County.
Harold Gene Darby was born July 2, 1934 in Washington, Iowa the son of Jay and Florence (Darnell) Darby. He was united in marriage to Artie F. Jordan on October 25, 1955, in Compton, CA. He worked in the Aerospace Industry at Aeorjet and later at Rockwell, where he retired in 1996. Harold enjoyed stamp collecting, fishing, target practicing, gardening and spoiling his three cats, Taz, Smokey and Baby.
Survivors include one son, Mike and wife Carrie Darby of Moreno Valley, CA, a daughter, Diane and husband Dan Wellington of Washington, IA, eight grandchildren, Dean Darby of New Jersey, Gary Darby of Georgia, Mike Darby, Mark Darby and Kristy Darby all of Moreno Valley, CA, Jonathon Darby and Tyler Lynch of Iowa City, Cassie Cordova of Washington, IA, and eight great grandchildren.
Preceding Harold in death were his parents, his wife Artie in 2003, two sons, Dean in 2005 and Wayne in 2011.
