Harold Boese

Harold Boese, 82, of Wayland, died Thursday evening December 18, 2008 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30AM on Monday, December 22, 2008 at the Bethel Mennonite Church with Pastor Phil Slabaugh officiating. Harold’s body has been cremated and burial will be at a later date in the Bethel Mennonite Cemetery. Beatty Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Family visitation will be from 3-6PM Sunday at the Bethel Mennonite Church. Memorials in the name of Harold Boese may be designated to the Parkview Home in Wayland or the Bethel Mennonite Church.

Harold was born on May 12, 1926 near Wayland the son of Harris and Eva (Reschly) Boese. He graduated from Wayland High School in 1943. On January 9, 1949 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Roth at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church.

Harold was a farmer at heart, but held a variety of different jobs during his life. He was a charter member of the Bethel Mennonite Church where he served as an elder, teacher, treasurer and church custodian. Harold enjoyed putting puzzles together, bird watching, and tinkering with cars.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy of Wayland, two sons, Dean and wife Terri Boese of Harrisonburg, VA., Gary and wife Marlene Boese of Hesston, KS., four daughters, Kathie and husband Bill Grimm of Wayland, Karen and husband Mike Bates of Washington, Shirley and husband Gary Wade of Wayland, and Annette and husband Merlin Boshart of Wayland, 19 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, one sister, Lucille Schantz of Wayland and one sister in law, Edith Boese of Kalona.
Preceding Harold in death were his parents, one son, Keith Boese, one brother, Orie Boese and an infant sister.
