A celebration of life for Harold J. Blosser, 81, of Iowa City, will be held Friday, March 30, 2018 at 10:00 AM at the East Union Mennonite Church with Pastor Joel Beachy officiating. Burial will follow at the East Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 29 from 3 – 6 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A general memorial fund has been established. Harold Blosser died Sunday, March 25, 2018 at the Iowa City Rehab and Health Care Center.
Harold Joseph Blosser was born July 30, 1936 in Iowa County, the son of Dwight and Ollie (Swartzendruber) Blosser. He attended Whitehall Elementary and graduated from Iowa Mennonite School. He went on to college at Hesston and received his Associates Degree, then graduated from Goshen College with a Bachelors Degree and finished his education at the Univeristy of Iowa with a Masters Degre in Music Education. Harold taught music at several schools including Central City, IMS and Venard College in Oskaloosa. He owned and operated a house painting business: Blosser Classic Painting, taught piano lessons and played the organ for funerals for many years. On June 10, 1967 he was united in marriage to Peggy Ann Yoder at the East Union Mennonite Church. Harold was a member of East Union Mennonite Church where he directed music for 40 years. He created a Christmas music festival, Weihnachtsfest, which was held for more than a decade. Harold was a charter member of the Iowa City Chamber Singers and enjoyed attending concerts, the ballet, painting, drawing, reading and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchild.
Survivors include his daughter Sonya Blosser of Iowa City, five grandchildren: Nicole Blosser, D.J. Robertson, Hurley Robertson, Dyllan Robertson and Jazzmin Robertson, one great granddaughter Jayla Hardemon, one sister Gladys (Doug) Thomas of Sterling, IL., a nephew Scott (Dawn) Thomas and a niece Renee (Mike) Schumacher.
Preceding Harold in death were his parents and his wife Peggy.
