Funeral services for Harley N. Short, 21, of Ottumwa, formerly of Wayland, will be held Friday, November 18, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. Burial will follow at the North Hill Cemetery in Wayland. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 17 from noon – 8 pm with the family present from 5 – 8 pm at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. A general memorial fund has been established. Harley Short died Monday, November 14, 2016 at his home in Ottumwa.
Harley Nicholas Short was born September 27, 1995 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, IA, the son of Jerry Joseph and Lynda Lorraine (Hemsted) Short. He attended school at Highland School District in Riverside, WACO High School and graduated from Eldora High School. Harley enjoyed playing video games and magic cards.
Survivors include his parents Jerry and Lynda of Wayland, four siblings and their spouses and children: Alexis Hemsted of Boulder, CO., Joseph Andrew Short and son Justus Short, Justin Leroy Short and daughters Jayden Leeann and Gracelyn Jolea Short, Jerry Dean (Dystany) Short and sons Brantley Evan and Caleb Ryan Ford. Also surviving are Harley's maternal grandmother Lavada Hemsted of West Plains, MO and paternal grandmother Nancy Short of Ottumwa.
Preceding Harley in death was his maternal grandfather Kenneth Donald Hemsted and paternal grandfather Gary Dean Short.
