Glenn ”Honsey” Widmer, 82 of Wayland, formally of Washington died Friday, November 21, 2003 at the Parkview Home in Wayland.
Graveside Memorial Services have been set for 2:00 P.M. Monday, November 24, 2003 at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington with Rev. Charles W. Smith officiating. Full military rites will be at the cemetery. Family will receive friends following the service at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington till 4:00 P.M. Monday afternoon. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to the Parkview Home in Wayland.
Glenn was born August 28, 1921 in Washington, Iowa the son of John and Sarah (Graber) Widmer. He was united in marriage to Jeanne Ione West April 10, 1946 in White City, KS.
Following graduation from Wayland High School in 1939 he served in WWII with the Hellcats 12th Armored Division as a Corporal. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Croiux De Gere (French medal for liberating Da Qua), three bronze stars and two oak clusters.
After the service he worked several places including Duke Schlatter Garage in Wayland, Chrysler Garage, West Chester, Kaiser Garage, Fenn Implement, International Harvester, Thompson Motors in Washington and retired from the University Hospital in Iowa City
He was a member of the VFW post 2808 and the American Legion in Wayland. He enjoyed cards, fishing camping and reading.
Survivors include two sons, George Widmer and wife Janice of Washington and John Widmer and wife Karla of Fairfield, IA; two daughters, Avis Smith and husband Charles of Webster City, Ia and Ann Moore of Washington; ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jeanne and infant son Glenn Jr.
