Gladys Rebecca King, 103 of Burlington formerly of Mt. Pleasant died Saturday, July 10, 2004 at Bickford Cottage in Burlington following declining health.
Funeral Services have been set for 1:00 P.M. Thursday, July 15, 2004 at the Fairfield Friends Church in Fairfield with the Pastor Dave Elmore officiating. Burial will be in the Salem South Cemetery. Visitation will begin at Noon Wednesday at the Beatty Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 P.M. Memorials in the name of Gladys King have established to the Salem Friends Church, Fairfield Friends Church or Quakerdale.
Gladys was born February 4, 1901 in Salem, Iowa the daughter of Thomas Eli and Rebecca Jane (Fraizer) White. She graduated from Salem High School in 1919 and the Iowa Teachers College at Cedar Falls and taught school for two years. On May 12, 1921 she was united in marriage to George Marion “Pat” King at the Methodist Parsonage in Mt. Pleasant.
Gladys was a charter member of the Fairfield Friends Church and was a prior member of the Salem Friends Church. She was president of the North Side Mothers Club. She devoted her life to her family and enjoyed crocheting and reading. Gladys spent all of her life in the Salem, Fairfield and Mt. Pleasant area.
Those left to honor her memory are five sons, Rex King and wife Darleen of Webster City, IA, Charles King and wife Ruby of Cedar Rapids, IA, William King and wife Carol of Mt. Pleasant, Robert King and wife Maxine of Rodgers, AR and James King and wife Grace of Muscatine, IA; four daughters, Estyl Breazeale and husband Richard of Iowa City, IA, Katherine Ross and husband William of Hillsboro, IA, Linda Cameron and husband Tom of Burlington, IA and Patti Nicol and husband Barney of Mt. Pleasant; sister-in-law Darlene King of Boulder, CO; forty grandchildren, seventy-six great-grandchildren and twenty-seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers, six sisters, son Merlin, two daughters, Marilyn and Joanne, one grandson and one great-grandson.
