Funeral services for Geraldine "Gerry" M. Schlabaugh 90, of Kalona, will be held Monday, August 23, 2010 at 3:00PM at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church in rural Kalona with Pastors Don Patterson and Dick Swartzendruber officiating. Burial will follow at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 22 from 3-7PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for the Pleasantview Home or Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church. Gerry died Friday, August 20 at the Pleasantview Home following a lingering illness.

Gerry was born August 13, 1920 in rural Wellman the daughter of Henry and Lillian (Miller) Swartzendruber. She attended Pacific Rural School and was united in marriage to Delmar "Shorty" Schlabaugh at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church on October 26, 1945. Gerry was a member of the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church where she was involved in WMSC, and teaching Sunday school and Bible School. She was a homemaker and worked as a sales clerk at Edmundson's and later Woodin Wheel in Kalona. Gerry volunteered at the Crowded Closet and Pleasantview Home. She enjoyed golfing in her earlier years and was a member of the Kalona Golf Course. She also enjoyed collecting antiques and spending time with her family.

Survivors include one daughter, Judy (Michael) Oesch of Middlebury, IN, two granddaughters, Laura (Ryan) Yoder and Lisa Oesch, and one great grandson, Hudson Yoder.

Preceding Gerry in death were her parents, her husband Shorty on November 15, 1984, five sisters, Laura Erb, Geneva Hooley, Dorothy Brenneman, Pauline Swartzendruber, Lavanda Kinsinger and one brother Harry Swartzendruber.
