A celebration of life for Gerald E. Marner, 84, of Kalona will be held Monday, July 6, 2015 at 2:00PM at Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church in rural Kalona with Pastor Don Patterson officiating. Burial will follow at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Cemetery in rural Kalona. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 5, 2015 from 2- 7 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for the Lower Deer Creek TCC Department or Iowa City Hospice. Gerald Marner died Thursday, July 2, 2015 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona.
Gerald Eugene Marner was born in Wellman, Iowa the son of David and Blanche (Swartzendruber) Marner. He attended rural school and was a member of Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church. Gerald was united in marriage to Esther Leichty on June 24, 1951 in Wayland. He was employed at the feed mill, was a partner in Mullet Trucking, worked at the Kalona Sales Barn, and helped Henry in construction and Stan on the farm. Gerald enjoyed making toy trucks, attending southern gospel music programs and spending time with his family.
Survivors include four children: Rosella (Henry) Myers of Kalona, Rosanna Marner of Kalona, Stanley (Joann) Marner of Brighton, Michael (Bernice) Marner of Parnell, seven grandchildren: Carlene Gardner, Kayla Halverson, David Marner, Christopher Marner, Colleen Stutzman, Lanae McPherson, Marie Boughton, 15 great grandchildren, one sister, Doris Swartzendruber of Kalona, one brother, Phil (Dorothy) Marner of Sarasota, Florida, and special friend, Iona Madden.
Preceding Gerald in death were his parents, his wife Esther in 2003, two grandsons: Patrick Marner in 1996 and Jason Marner in 2010, one brother, Donald Marner and brother in law, Mark Swartzendruber.
