George Leonard Kerr, 85, of West Chester died Friday, September 14, 2018 at the Washington County Emergency Room. A graveside service has been set for Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will be held Friday, September 21, from 4 – 6PM at the Beatty Funeral Home Washington. A memorial fund has been established for Paws and More Animal Rescue. Leonard was born on December 31, 1932 in New London, Iowa, the son of Oakland Kerr and Myrtle (Sorber) Kerr. He attended school in Morning Sun and joined the United States Army in 1953, serving until 1955. Leonard was a truck driver for Oberland Sand Company. He was a talented musician, playing guitar, dobro, mandolin, piano, and violin in bands in area nightclubs and get togethers.
Survivors include his ex-wife Marie Kerr of Washington, brother Larry Kerr, Sr. of West Chester, six children: Rhonda Woods of Crawfordsville, Pam (Dennis) Zielstorf of Wayland, Steven Kerr of Avoca, Christine (Chad) Kauffman of Washington, Diane (Craig) Ritter of Greene, Theresa (David) Bauer of Walcott, and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren, including Julie Bauer.
Preceding in death were his parents, a daughter Patty Chambless and two sisters: Marydell Tusing and Colleen Glisan.
