George “Bud” Fort, 68 of Wayland, died Monday, February 24, 2003 at his home in Wayland following a lengthy illness.
Funeral Services have been set for 10:30 A.M. Thursday, February 27, 2003 at the Wayland Mennonite Church with the Rev. Kenneth Hartman and Rev. Robert Wolf officiating. Burial will be in the Cottonwood Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Wayland with the family receiving friends from 6:00-8:00. Memorials in the name of George Fort may be designated to Crossroads Hospice or Iowa ALS Foundation.
George was born May 28, 1934 in Montgomery Co. Missouri the son of William Emil and Geneva D. (Lail) Fort. He attended Wayland High School and was united in marriage to Georgia White on September 8, 1973 in Mt. Pleasant, IA.
George was of the Methodist faith and was employed as a carpenter and autobody repairman. He owned and operated Fort and sons for twenty-four years and operated a auto bodyshop at his home until retiring in 1992. Bud enjoyed old cars, camping, fishing, traveling, history, reading and cooking.
Survivors include his mother Geneva Fort of Wayland, his wife Georgia of Wayland; two sons Kevin Fort and wife Sheila of Wayland and Brian Fort of Washington; two daughters, Regina Fort of Foristella, Mo and Linnea Martin of Marion, IA; two brothers, Jim Fort and wife Chris of Washington and Ron Fort and wife Becky of Central City, IA; one sister-in-law, Gracy Fort of Pleasantview, IA and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his Father and one brother Bill.
