A celebration of life for G. William "Bill" Barr, 85, of Washington will be held Monday, December 5, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. Burial will follow at the Green Mound Cemetery in Trenton. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 4, 2016 from 5 – 7 pm at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Washington County. Bill Barr died Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at the McCreedy Home.
Bill was born December 10, 1930 in Trenton Township, the son of Jess and Dorcas (Ball) Barr. He attended Crawford #4 rural school where he and his siblings walked to school in warm, sunny and breezy weather and also in rain, sleet and snow. In the early 40's he moved with his family to Washington. In August of 1952 he was drafted into the United States Army. He was honorably discharged due to medical issues in July of 1953. Bill worked for the Washington Sewer Department for many years. He enjoyed going to Old Threshers, old trains, steam engines, tractors and cars, taking rides in the country, especially to the Villages of Van Buren County. He also enjoyed attending flea markets in What Cheer, going to the Swedesburg Museum and attending the Swedish pancake breakfast at the Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church. Bill spent many mornings at Evan's Welding, making sure the fire was going and ready for the day.
Survivors include four sisters: Wynona Woods of Corydon, Vada Secrest, Alice Hesser and Hazel Sinn all of Washington and a number of nieces and nephews.
Preceding Bill in death were his grandparents, his parents, one brother Roger and wife Nancy Barr and four brothers-in-law: Jim Sinn, Rodney Woods, Jim Hesser and Gordon Secrest.
