Geneva “Neva” (Mendenhall) Payne, 95 of Mt. Pleasant, formally of Salem, died Thursday, October 26, 2006 at Sunnybrook in Mt. Pleasant.
Geneva was born east of Salem November 7, 1910 the daughter of Earnest W. and Grace (Frary) Breazeale. She graduated from Salem High School and was united in marriage to Everette “Peg” Mendenhall on July 4, 1929 he preceded her in death June 14, 1962. She later married Raymond “Hook” Payne on October 9, 1963 he preceded her in death March 27, 1987.
Geneva was a life long member of the Salem Congregational Church. She helped on the farm, worked briefly at the Henry County Hospital and sold Avon for thirty-seven years retiring in 2003. She enjoyed shopping, fishing and watching horse racing.
Survivors include children Harold Mendenhall and wife Helen of Mt. Pleasant, Robert Mendenhall and wife Marie of Mt. Pleasant and Christine Baldridge and husband Milton of Fairfield, IA; six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, brother Delbert and sister Lois.
