A celebration of life for Gary D. Wade, 56 of Wayland will be held Friday, May 11, 2012 at 10:30AM at the Bethel Mennonite Church in rural Wayland, with Pastor Brad Gillis officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday, May 10 from 4-7PM. The body has been cremated. A memorial fund has been established for the Bethel Mennonite Church. Gary Wade died Saturday, May 5, 2012 at his home in Wayland following a battle with cancer.
Gary Duane Wade was born September 30, 1955 in Washington, Iowa the son of Darrel and Edith (Yoder) Wade. He graduated from Washington High School. Gary was united in marriage to Shirley Boese on October 22, 1977 at the Bethel Mennonite Church in rural Wayland. He worked as a Dialysis Technician at the University of Iowa Hospital from 1992 until 2006, when he began working at the VA Hospital in Iowa City, where he worked until August of 2011. Gary was a member of the Bethel Mennonite Church. He was a people person and loved to spend time with his family and friends. Gary enjoyed horses and history and entertaining others with his humor.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Wayland, two children, Michelle Wade of Wayland, Jameson and wife Andrea Wade of Lancaster, PA, three sisters, Rita and husband Duane "Barney" Schultz of Ainsworth, Kristin and husband Donnie Stone of West Branch and Marlene and husband Allen Jones of Ainsworth.
Preceding Gary in death were his parents.
