Franklin D. Wenger, 74 of Mt. Pleasant formally of Washington went home to be with the Lord Friday, June 11, 2010 at the Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mt. Pleasant following a courageous battle with cancer over the past year.
Funeral Services have been set for 11:00 AM Friday, June 18, 2010 at the First Christian Church in Washington with Pastor Colton Clay officiating. Burial will follow in the Elm Grove Cemetery. Visitation will begin at Noon Thursday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with family present from 6-8:00 PM. Memorials may be designated to Great River Hospice.
Born on January 2, 1936, he was the new years first baby in Washington county that year, near Noble, IA., the son of Homer and Marie (Widmer) Wenger. A 1954 graduate of Wyman High School, he married Ruth Arlene Wagler on November 21, 1959, in Wright, IA. They had one daughter, Sherry Dawson, a son-in-law they loved as if their own, Harold of Mt. Pleasant, two grandchildren Luke and Kate, who were the joy of his life.
After working for Farmers Produce and farming for a few years in Louisa County, Frank farmed for many years in Washington County before retiring in 1986 and moving to Washington. He also worked for Cashway Lumber, as a salesman for Walnut Grove Feeds and the Washington Community Schools. He enjoyed woodworking and family.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth, September 1, 2003, Parents, and sister Marcella M. Humphreys.
