Francis G. Leonard, 82 of the West Chester area, died Friday afternoon, November 9, 2007 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, following a short illness.
Funeral Services have been set for 11:00 AM Friday, November 16, 2007 at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with Patrick Leonard officiating. Burial will be at the Resthaven Garden of Memory Cemetery in Wichita, Kansas, with military honors at a later date. Visitation will begin at Noon Thursday at the Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 PM. A general memorial has been established in the name of Francis G. Leonard.
Francis was born July 24, 1925 in Marceline, Missouri the son of George Francis and Nancy Estelle (Derrick) Leonard. He graduated from Stuart High School, Stuart, Iowa and was united in marriage to Bernadine Ruth February 16, 1944 and later married Monnie G. Acord on December 21, 1971.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Rosehill, Kansas. He served in the US Navy during WW II in the Pacific Theater and was in the U.S. Air Force for twenty years and retired at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, KS. Following his retirement from the service he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier. He returned to the West Chester area in the summer of 2006. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and fishing.
Survivors include his son George Leonard and wife Linda of West Chester and daughter Connie Jenkins and husband Jim of Neoga, IL; step children; Robert Acord, Kansas, Ann Lullteig (Acord), Kansas, Thomas Acord, Texas; brother James H. Leonard of California; twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, brother L.P., sister Byrda, and step-son James Acord.
