Frances Elizabeth Gerig was born June 14, 1917,in Lebanon, Oregon to Martin and Emma Nofziger Gerig and moved to Iowa at the age of one. On December 22, 1940 Frances married Roman Yutzy at Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church, where they continued to attend. Frances was a special wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She loved to crochet and had a green thumb for gardening and raising plants. She touched the lives of many with her kindness, love and warm smile. Frances is survived by her children; Mary and John Dachtler of Oxford, IA, Dorothy Yutzy of Anchorage, Alaska, Bertha DeHerrera of Iowa City, IA, Linda Stodulski of Mechanicsville, VA, Lois Bava of Denver, CO, Nicholas and Nancy Yutzy of Iowa City, IA, and Charity and Daryl Schlabaugh of Iowa City, IA. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, 10 listed as casket bearers and 8 granddaughters; Angela Dachtler, Vicki Deitrich, Beth Stodulski, Diane Graham, Erin McCune, Jessica McCune, Elizabeth Bava, and Stephanie Schlabaugh, 25 great grandchildren and 5 siblings, Emanual Gerig of Corvallis, OR, Minnie Chaffee of West Unity, OH, Allen Gerig of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Lavern Gerig of South Bend, IN, and Elmer of Lebanon, OR. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roman (4/28/1987) 2 grandchildren, Shanna and Timothy Dachtler, six siblings, Elsie Gerig, Mable Miller, Mary Gerig, Melvin Gerig, Willard Gerig and Emery Gerig. In her memory a memorial fund has been established for Iowa City Hospice. Frances' family extends their heartfelt appreciation for the many acts of kindness shown them during Frances' declining days and at this time of their loss.
