Frances Marie Magdefrau, 73 of Washington, died Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a short illness.
A Celebration of her life will be 10:00 AM Thursday, February 21, 2008 at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Harold Gruber officiating. Burial will be in the Cottonwood Cemetery west of Wayland. Visitation will begin at Noon Wednesday at the funeral home with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 in the evening. Memorials in the name of Frances Marie Magdefrau may be designated to the Cottonwood Church.
Frances was born January 22, 1935 in Keota, Iowa the daughter of Henry and Mazie (Horning) Manning. She graduated from High School in Mt. Pleasant in 1953 and was united in marriage to Richard Magdefrau on June 11, 1954 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA.
Frances was a dedicated wife and mother, and also worked part time at the Washington Journal for 20 years. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning fruit and vegetables and especially enjoyed photography. She leaves behind a collection of photo albums that span of over 50 years.
Frances leaves behind her husband Richard of Washington, sons, Richard Magdefrau and friend Cyndie of Washington and Rick Magdefrau and wife Tedra of Richland, IA; brother Earl Manning and wife Beaulah of Mt. Pleasant; sisters Lucille Hudson and husband Jack of Hillsboro, IA, Barbara Schenk and husband Jim of Mt. Pleasant, Mary Ann Dupree of Mt. Pleasant, Charlene Ragan and husband Ron of Oxnard, CA, Kay Carey and husband Jim of Washington; sister-in-law Mary Manning of Mt. Pleasant; two grandsons Josh and Jake and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by camping buddies Dwight and Mildred Manning, Wayne and Betty Brown and Don and Charlotte Pencil, who shared many wonderful year of camping experience.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jim and sister Darlene Magdefrau.
