Funeral services for Frances C. Custer, 84 of Wayland will be held Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 10:00AM the Beatty Funeral Home in Wayland with Pastor Linda Renkin officiating. Burial will follow at the Cottonwood Cemetery in rural Wayland. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 21 from noon – 8PM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Wayland with the family present from 5-8PM. A memorial fund has been established for the Humane Society.
Frances died Monday, April 19, 2010 at the University Of Iowa Hospital following a brief illness.
Frances Custer was born August 23, 1925 in Coppock, IA the daughter of Edward and Naomi (Christner) Schantz. She was united in marriage to Robert Custer on January 21, 1947 in Washington, IA. Frances was a member of the 1st Christian Church in Murray, NE, Home Chapter #189 Order of the Eastern Star of Plattsmouth, NE where she was Past Worthy Matron and held many other offices, was a member of the Order of the White Shrine and was involved in the horse club of Wayland. She also helped her husband with his pony team at the State Fair. Frances enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels, was very proud of her rose bushes, loved to visit with neighbors, spend time with her grandchildren, shop and collecting glass hens on nest.
Survivors include her three children, Roberta (Marrel) Bush of Windom, MN, David Allen (Sandy) Custer of Wayland, IA, Terry (Jim) Van Sickle of Keota, six grandchildren, Dr. Richard Vallery, Amy Sara (Chris) Richardson, Jamie (John) Moeller, Katie Custer, Billie (Shannon) Kindred, Chad (Kim) Kindred, 12 great grandchildren, loyal family pet, Mandy, two sisters, Fannie Van Sant of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Esther Seagren of Dixon, IL and three sisters in law, Gladys Schantz of Eldorado Springs, MO, Mary Ellen (Dale) Smith of Washington, IA, and Rose Custer of Winfield, IA.
Preceding Frances in death were her parents, husband Robert and one brother Edward R. “Bud” Schantz.
