Forest “Dude” Neff, 86 of Wayland, died Friday, January 19, 2007 at the Washington County Hospital.
Funeral Services have been set for 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at the Cottonwood United Methodist Church west of Wayland with Pastor Hyeunmee Kang and Pastor Gerry Klopfenstein Officiants. Burial will be in the Cottonwood Cemetery. Visitation will begin at Noon Monday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Wayland with the family receiving friends from 5-7:00 PM. Memorials in the name of Forest Neff may be designated to the Parkview Home.
Forest was born October 23, 1920 in Wayland, Iowa the son of Henry and Elnora (Tucker) Neff.
He was a member of the Cottonwood United Methodist Church and lived his entire life in Wayland. He worked on the family farm with his father until his father died and then began helping area farmers as a day laborer. These farmers had big tractors and fell in love with John Deere.
Forest moved to the Parkview Home twenty-nine years ago and enjoyed being a helper while he was still able. As years went by he needed more assistance himself but never lost his sweet attitude toward life.
Old Threshers was a very big in his life. From the very beginning he and his parents became a part of Old Threshers each year, never missing a day. He worked hard at any task they gave him to do and in later years he was given the responsibility of sitting with the big old machine in Museum A. It was a sad day for him when he was not able to do this.
Survivors include his brother Sam Neff and wife Helen of Washington, sister Eva Garrett of Washington, sister-in-laws Ivy Neff and Evelyn Neff both of Washington and may nieces, nephews and special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Elmer, Walter, Don and infant brother Charley, sisters, Mae Alliman, Anna Garrett and Ruth Tucker.
