Florence Sobaski, 76 of Wayland, formally of Washington, died Sunday, December 02, 2007 at the Parkview Home in Wayland, following a 12 year illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at St. James Catholic Church in Washington with Rev. Fr. Ed O’Melia officiating. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery. Visitation will begin at Noon Tuesday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 PM. A Rosary will be at 4:00 PM and a Vigil Service at 7:30 PM, both Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Florence was born May 6, 1931 in the family home near Titus in Franklin Township, Washington Co. , Iowa the daughter of Charles F. and Clara (Hammes) Greiner. She graduated from West Chester High School as Salutatorian in 1949 and was united in marriage to Harold Sobaski, May 6, 1950 at St. James Catholic Church in Washington.
Florence was a member of St. James Catholic Church, St. James Church ladies circles and participated in pinochle marathons. In her early years, she farmed with her husband. She drove a school bus for the Washington Community School System for 29 years, from 1965 till 1994. She loved her “bus kids” and always considered them to be a precious cargo. She resided at the Parkview Home from July 1996 until her death. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and a loyal friend to many. She is dearly missed and remembered by those whose lives she touched.
Survivors include her husband Harold of Cedar Rapids; sons Duane Sobaski and wife Lucetta of Cedar Rapids and John Sobaski and wife Julie of Iowa City; daughters Kathleen Patterson and husband Tim of Cedar Rapids and Karen Sobaski of North Liberty; brothers Carl Greiner and wife Alice of Washington, Wilford Greiner and wife Rita of Washington; sisters Sr. Marietta Greiner of Campbellsport, WI and Harriet Adam and husband Elmer of Fairfield; sisters-in-law Marcella Greiner of Washington and Virginia Greiner of Fairfield; seven grandchildren Patsy Halleran, Polly Forinash, Zach, Justin, Branden, Brett and Calie Sobaski and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Sylvester, Harold, Howard, Fr. Charles and Don; sister Sr. Dolores Greiner.
