Florence Rich, 93 of Grants Pass, Oregon, originally from Washington, IA, died Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at her home.
Florence chose to be cremated and buried next to her parents at Eicher Cemetery near Wayland, IA. A graveside service will be 9:30 AM Friday, November 12, 2010 at the Eicher Cemetery. Beatty Funeral Home in Washington is assisting with arrangements.
Florence was born December 31, 1916 in Washington, IA the eighth child in a family of ten to Frank and Lydia Rich. She completed High School and three years of nurses training at the old Nursing Home in Washington. She later served as a Registered Nurse on the east coast for the U.S. Navy in WWII. Following the war she worked as a nurse at the Washington County Hospital until retiring.
Her mother Lydia, passed away shortly after giving birth to her and Franks last siblings. Florence and Irene along with their father raised all of the siblings. In the spring of 1963 Florence and a couple of her siblings moved o Long Beach, CA, where they were active in church and related activities. In 1983 they moved to Grants Pass, Oregon to be near other family members, where Florence remained till her death.
She was a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church and enjoyed crafts and genealogy.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews, cousin Gertrude Booth, and sister-in-law Doris Rich of Washington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Orville, Irvan, Glenn and Edwin; five sisters, Irene, Evelyn, Mable, Vivian and Verda; nephew Mike Rich
