Evelyn Louise Whitten Hensel, 70 of Washington, died Saturday, June 18, 2005 at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington.
Funeral services have been set for 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at the United Methodist Church in Washington with Rev. Julie Poulsen and Rev. Everett Burham officiating. Burial will be in the Packwood Cemetery. Visitation will begin at Noon Monday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 P.M. in the evening. Memorials in the name of Evelyn Hensel may be designated to the United Methodist Church or the ALS Association.
Evelyn was born September 20, 1934 in Martinsburg, Iowa the daughter of Ralph and Anna (Hayes) Capps. She graduated from Hedrick High School. On September 20, 1953 she was united in marriage to Gilbert Whitten at Hedrick, Iowa, he preceded her in death in 1985, she later married M. Clinton Hensel January 6, 1990 in Fairfield, Iowa, he preceded her in death later in 1990.
She was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Fortnightly, TTT and a patient advocate for Halcyon House. She was employed as a home health aid before moving to Washington in 1990. She retired from the Dietary Department at the Washington County Hospital.
Survivors include sons, Stan Whitten and wife Linda of Keosauqua, IA, Mark Hensel Jr. and wife Dorothy of Arlington, TX and Ken Hensel of Clay Center, KS; two daughters, Debra Hensel and husband Fred of Washington, IA and Marla Crew and husband Mike of Fairfield, IA; brother Kenneth Capps and wife Betty of Pekin, IA; sisters, Alma Steen and husband Lowell of West Des Moines, IA, Mary Ruth Domanski of Flushing, MI and Cora Lea Whitten and husband Bob of Fairfield, IA; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, two brothers Leland and Leonard and one sister in infancy Ila.
