Funeral services for Ethel Widmer, 92, of Wayland, will be held Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at 10:30AM at the Eicher Mennonite Church in rural Wayland. Visitation will be held Tuesday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington, from noon – 7PM with the family present from 5-7PM. Ethel died Sunday, August 02, 2009 at the Parkview Home in Wayland following a lingering illness. A memorial fund has been established for Parkview Home in Wayland.
Ethel was born March 22, 1917 in rural Washington County the daughter of Chris E. and Emma (Reschly) Roth. She graduated from Wayland High School and on August 29, 1943 she was united in marriage to Marvin E. Widmer. Ethel was a member of the Eicher Mennonite Church and enjoyed gardening, baking and cooking.
Survivors include one daughter, Dianne and husband Larry Black of Crawfordsville, IA, one foster son, Ted and wife Sue Simpson of Waterloo, Iowa, 2 grandchildren, Rebecca and husband Brent Johnson, David and wife Sherri Black, one foster grandson, Mike Bisbee, six great grandchildren, Erick and Ethan Johnson, Levi, Isaac, Hannah and Gabe Black and one step great grandson, Austin Bixby, one foster great granddaughter, Paige Bisbee, one sister in law, Kathryn Bloomberg of Mediapolis, IA.
Preceding Ethel in death were her parents, her husband Marvin in 1987, three sisters, Mabel Conrad, Edith Roth and Marguerite Dare.
