Esthermay Goldizen-Herin

Esthermay “Tess” Goldizen-Herin, 71 of Washington, died Friday, June 02, 2006 at her home in Washington following declining health.

Funeral Services have been set for 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. Burial will be in the Cedar Township Cemetery in Fremont, IA. Visitation will begin at Noon Monday at the Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 in the evening. A memorial to Cancer Care of Iowa City has been established in the name of Estermay Herin.

Estermay was born July 21, 1934 in Champion, Nebraska the daughter of Stewart and Minnie (Dunlavy) Hancock. She married Ronald Goldizen November 10, 1952 in Harrison, Arkansas, he preceded her in death June 7, 1984. She married Walter “Bert” Herin August 21, 1985 at Albuquerque, New Mexico, he preceded her in death November 20, 2000. She attended Bloomfield High School and the University of New Mexico, Los Alamos Branch.

Estermay was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, Washington branch. In 1976 she received the Governers Leadership Award for effors in heading up a committee for the composing and finishing of writing a history book about Fremont.

Survivors include children Rex Goldizen and wife Angie of Fremont, IA, Barbara DeGeest and husband Paul of Fremont and Jeanne Snyder and husband Doug of Washington; stepchildren Mike Herin and wife Karen of Littleton, CO, Roberta Dawson and husband Terry of Sun City West, AZ and Carol Custer and husband Dave of West Cliffe, CO; brother Arthur Ray Hancock of Bloomfield and sister Ellen Stufflebeam of Tempe, AZ; thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, son Rodney, three brother,Wayne, Osa and Purdy, sisters Lillian Hudnall, Wilma Hancock, Earnestine hancock and Hazel Reese.
